Join us for a special symposium to celebrate the opening of the National Museum of the American Indian’s landmark exhibition, Nation to Nation: Treaties Between the United States and American Indian Nations, and the notable book of the same title that accompanies the exhibition. Distinguished scholars, authors, and governmental leaders will speak about the past, present, and future of treaties between the U.S. and Native Nations. They will discuss treaties that rest at the heart of American history and that have had an incalculable effect on lands, cultures, and populations of the Native Nations and of the U.S.  Senator Jon Tester of Montana will deliver opening remarks and Judy Woodruff of PBS News Hour will join journalist Mark Trahant (Shoshone-Bannock) to interview NMAI Director Kevin Gover (Pawnee) and Guest Curator Suzan Shown Harjo (Cheyenne/Hodulgee Muscogee) about the Nation to Nation exhibition. A preview of the exhibition and book signing will follow on the museum’s Fourth Level.
